About our Pastor
Rev. Russell B. Harris Sr. is a native of Chicago, Illinois and is now residing in
a neighboring suburb. He received his early education in the Chicago Public
School System. He furthered his training at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C.
where he earned his B.A. Degree in Music. He attended Chicago Baptist
Institute where he receive much of his foundational training. He is currently
enrolled in the Master Theological Seminary where he is way on his to
achieving his goal of earning a Doctorate in Theology.
Rev. Harris serves as the Pastor of the Beautiful Zion M.B. Church in Chicago,
Illinois one of the cornerstones in the Englewood community. He was elected as
Pastor on April 1st 2007. Even though our Pastor has not been in this position
long, the Lord has blessed that we are not only growing numerically but also
spiritually. As a young Pastor he is a man with vision and backs it up with action.
He has perked the interest of our young people as well as our seasoned
members to become more serious in their walk with Christ. He has instituted an
all inclusive Vacation Bible School where we had a record number of
participants for the entire week. He has instituted a day to celebrate our Seniors
and to express our gratitude for their guidance. He has instituted a wellness
class that teaches us how to treat our bodies so that we can be physically fit as
well as spiritually fit.
Pastor Harris has served as the President of the Music Department for the
United Baptist State Convention of Illinois Inc. for a number of years and after
he became Pastor of this church he was elevated to one of the Vice Presidents
of the same convention where he is over Education. Along with that he is also
the General Secretary of the Emmanuel Baptist District of Chicago and Vicinity.
Pastor Harris is married to La'Donna C. Harris and they are the parents of two
beautiful children. Renee' Chante Harris and Russell Bernard Harris Jr. His
future plans includes expanding the ministry of Beautiful Zion and to serve the
Englewood Community and surrounding areas in a greater way.
